Campbell’s Soup Plant
Maxton, North Carolina
Several years ago, the Campbell’s Soup plant in Maxton, NC built an addition to their plant to meet their expanded production needs. Unlike the rest of the facility, the addition employed a structural steel deck to support the concrete floor slab; unfortunately, the Owner discovered in 2017 that the steel deck had begun to rust in several locations. Raymond Engineering was contacted through the contractor, Capital Restoration and Waterproofing, to perform an evaluation of the steel and design a solution.
Raymond Engineering was retained to perform a structural analysis of the rusting steel deck along with the rusting structural steel in the Maxton plant’s new addition. The client was concerned that it would become a safety hazard that could result in a mandatory shutdown of the plant; therefore, an immediate investigation and resolution was warranted.
