Resolute Forest Products Paper Mill
Resolute Forest Products U.S., Inc., is investing $375 million to undertake two major expansion projects ($105 million and $270 million) at its 1952 vintage pulp and paper mill located in Calhoun, Tennessee. The company will build a new, state-of-the-art facility to manufacture approximately 60,000 metric tons per year of at-home, premium bath tissue and towel, focused on the growing private label market. Construction on these two projects began in June 2015 with production expected to start in the first quarter of 2017.
An essential aspect of this project is to upgrade the roof and walls to provide an adequate enclosure for production of tissue. Regarding the roof, not only we asked to design a new insulation and membrane system, we were asked to evaluate the condition of the precast concrete deck slabs and the supporting steel purlins.
Our condition assessment involved reviewing the original design drawings, examining the precast concrete deck slabs, examining the steel purlins, making engineering calculations, and making recommendations for reinforcements to some of the steel purlins.
