Roberts Park Community Center

Raleigh, North Carolina

Raymond Engineering was retained to oversee the roof replacement of Roof Sections A & B at the Roberts Park Community Center in Raleigh, NC. The existing roof, including lightweight insulating concrete, was removed down to the deck.

Deteriorated metal decking was replaced.  New wood blocking, gypsum thermal barrier, a one-ply modified asphalt temporary roof, lightweight insulating concrete, a nailed base sheet, and a two-ply modified asphalt roof membrane were installed.  Existing scuppers were enlarged and new downspouts with splash blocks were installed. Additionally, drains were replaced.  A brick wall between two roof areas was tuckpointed and water repellent was installed.  The scope of work also included the installation of new gas line supports.  Safety railing was installed adjacent to the roof hatch along a roof edge. A large quantity of deteriorated metal roof deck was discovered near the beginning of tear off and we performed screw pull tests to determine areas requiring replacement.

We designed these roofs to be environmentally friendly with the addition of insulation.
